The Frontrunners
Mercedes: Pre-season testing pointed to one conclusion — the W17 is the car to beat. George Russell and Kimi Antonelli look like the strongest driver pairing on the grid, and the team's interpretation of the active aero rules appears to have given them a genuine advantage.
Ferrari: Lewis Hamilton's arrival has energised Maranello. The SF-26 showed strong race pace in testing, and with Fred Vasseur's calm leadership, expectations are high. Hamilton and Leclerc is arguably the most talented driver pairing in F1 history.
McLaren: The defending Constructors' Champions. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have the title to defend, but the MCL61's Mercedes power unit integration has been a concern during testing. If reliability holds, they have the pace to challenge.
The Question Marks
Red Bull: Four straight Constructors' titles, but the transition to 2026 has been rocky. The Red Bull Powertrains unit is a known quantity — it's the chassis integration that's causing headaches. Verstappen's talent might paper over the cracks, but for how long?
Aston Martin: Adrian Newey's first full car as Team Principal. The AMR26 is Honda-powered and has shown flashes of pace. Fernando Alonso, in his 23rd season, will be desperate for one last shot at the title.
The Midfield
Alpine: Still Renault-powered, with Pierre Gasly leading the charge alongside Franco Colapinto. The 2026 regulations offer an opportunity to close the gap to the frontrunners.
Williams: Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon is a strong line-up. Fifth in the 2025 Constructors' gave them momentum heading into the new rules.
Haas: Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman, with Toyota Gazoo Racing backing. The most improved team in testing.
Racing Bulls: Liam Lawson leads the team alongside exciting rookie Arvid Lindblad.
The Newcomers
Audi: Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto carry the weight of a massive manufacturer programme that's still finding its feet.
Cadillac: F1's 11th team, Ferrari-powered, with Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez. Completing 164 laps in Barcelona testing was a statement of intent.
