Albert Park is a semi-permanent street circuit built around a lake in Melbourne's parkland. The track was significantly re-profiled in 2022: Turn 1 was widened by 2.5 metres, Turn 3's entry was widened by 4 metres with increased positive camber, and Turn 6 was widened by 7.5 metres — nearly doubling its width and making it approximately 70 km/h faster than the original layout. The slow lakeside chicane was removed entirely, creating a faster, more flowing circuit.
The surface is smooth but offers limited grip in early sessions, with lap times improving significantly as the track rubbers in across the weekend. Few corners are genuinely low-speed beyond Turns 3, 11 and 14 — this is one of the faster circuits on the calendar.
Pirelli Tyre Allocation
Pirelli have nominated the three softest compounds in their range for Melbourne:
- C3 (Hard — white): 2 sets per driver
- C4 (Medium — yellow): 3 sets per driver
- C5 (Soft — red): 8 sets per driver
Intermediate (green) and full wet (blue) tyres are also available. The 2026 tyres are narrower than their predecessors with a reduced contact patch and smaller overall diameter, though they retain 18-inch rims.
