A Star is Born
Kimi Antonelli crossed the line at the Shanghai International Circuit to score his maiden Formula 1 victory, leading a Mercedes 1-2 that continued the Silver Arrows' perfect start to 2026. At 19 years and 202 days, Antonelli became only the second teenager to win a Formula 1 race — joining Max Verstappen in an exclusive club.
He finished 5.5 seconds clear of team-mate George Russell, who extended his championship lead to four points. Two races, two 1-2 finishes — Mercedes hasn't looked this dominant since the turbo-hybrid era.
Hamilton's First Ferrari Podium
Lewis Hamilton brought the SF-26 home in P3, scoring his first podium in Ferrari colours. Charles Leclerc finished P4, meaning Ferrari scored solid points but remain firmly behind Mercedes in the early standings.
McLaren's Nightmare: Double DNS
The defining image of the Chinese Grand Prix: two McLarens sitting silently in the garage while the formation lap began. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri suffered Mercedes-supplied battery failures — their first double failure to start since the 2005 US Grand Prix. The reigning Constructors' Champions scored zero points.
The Midfield Battle
Oliver Bearman continued his impressive form with P5 for Haas, while Pierre Gasly took P6 for Alpine. Only 15 cars finished — a brutal attrition rate that underlined the challenges of the new 2026 power units.
Championship Picture
Russell leads the Drivers' Championship from Antonelli, with Hamilton third. In the Constructors', Mercedes have a commanding lead over Ferrari, while McLaren — the defending champions — have scored zero points from two races.
