Russell Untouchable
George Russell led from lights to flag in the Chinese Grand Prix Sprint, continuing Mercedes' domination of the 2026 season. Having topped all three segments of Sprint Qualifying on Friday with a 1:31.520 — nearly three tenths clear of Antonelli — Russell converted pole into a comfortable victory.
Verstappen's Battery Nightmare
The Sprint will be remembered for Max Verstappen's catastrophic opening lap. Starting P8, the four-time champion dropped to P15 by the first corner as his battery failed to deliver power off the line. It was a repeat of the Melbourne issue — Red Bull Powertrains still hasn't solved the formation lap charging problem that leaves the car with insufficient energy at the start.
Verstappen described the experience bluntly, saying the engine simply was not there when he released the clutch. Both he and team-mate Isack Hadjar have reported identical symptoms.
Sprint Grid (Top 10)

What This Tells Us About Sunday
Mercedes' pace advantage is real and significant. McLaren have the speed to challenge but need a clean weekend. Ferrari are solid but not spectacular. And Red Bull? They're fighting to survive.
