Wolff's Defence of Modern F1 Racing

Following the Miami Grand Prix, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has launched a pointed defence of Formula 1's current competitive format. According to ESPN F1, Wolff said anyone still complaining about the racing created by the sport's new cars after Miami "should hide." RacingNews365 reported that Wolff jumped to F1's defence following the chaotic Miami race on Sunday.

Closer Competition at Miami

The Miami event marked a notable shift in Mercedes' dominance this season. According to Motorsport.com, Mercedes remains on the maximum score of four wins after four Formula 1 grands prix, although the competition was significantly closer in Miami than during the three race weekends prior to the April break. The report notes that McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull all travelled to Florida with significant upgrades, while Mercedes has its first major package of the year planned for the Canadian Grand Prix.

Miami Victory and Future Development

Speedweek.com reported that Toto Wolff offered substantial praise for Miami race winner Kimi Antonelli, underscoring Mercedes' continued competitive edge despite the tightening field.

Power Unit Direction Amid Engine Debate

Beyond the immediate race fallout, Wolff has also weighed in on broader technical direction. According to PlanetF1, Mercedes is open to Formula 1 returning to V8 engines, but Wolff has warned the sport must not abandon electrification and risk looking "out of step" with the real world.

Mercedes' Operational Focus

Motorsport.com also reported that Wolff flagged Mercedes' poor starts as "not acceptable" if the team wants to win F1 world titles, indicating internal focus on race execution despite the team's continued points haul.
