Verstappen praises Red Bull's Miami upgrade as team fixes early-season struggles

Max Verstappen has credited Red Bull's upgraded F1 car at Miami with transforming his driving experience, moving from struggling with balance issues to being able to push the RB22 effectively after a difficult start to 2026.

Red Bull's Rapid Turnaround in Miami

According to Motorsport.com, Max Verstappen described Red Bull's swift turnaround at the Miami Grand Prix as "incredible", following what had been a challenging opening to the 2026 season. The team rolled out upgrades that fundamentally altered the four-time world champion's ability to extract performance from the car.

From Passenger to Competitor

Verstappen's assessment, reported by both Crash.net and Motorsport.com, centred on a shift in his role within the cockpit. Crash.net noted that Verstappen is no longer a "total passenger" in the upgraded machine, while Motorsport.com quoted him saying he is "no longer a passenger" and can now push the RB22 instead of simply managing its limitations.

Addressing Early-Season Balance Issues

According to Motorsport.com, Red Bull had missed the mark with its 2026 challenger, which proved impossible to balance over the opening rounds of the season. The Miami upgrade package appears to have resolved these fundamental issues, enabling Verstappen to operate the car within its intended performance envelope rather than compensating for inherent weaknesses.

Miami Front Row Result

Motorsport.com reported that the improved Red Bull yielded a Miami F1 front row result, validating the effectiveness of the upgrade package introduced at the circuit.
