Madrid's Madring ready for inspection as Sainz logs first impressions
Carlos Sainz has become the first driver to complete a lap of the Madring, the newly constructed Formula 1 circuit near Madrid's Barajas airport. According to Motorsport.com, the Williams driver tested the venue as construction continues ahead of an FIA inspection scheduled for the end of May.
The circuit, located in the Spanish capital, will host the Spanish Grand Prix later in the 2026 season. According to Mundo Deportivo, the event is scheduled for 11–13 September 2026, making the Madring F1's newest venue.
Early circuit assessment
Sainz's maiden lap provided valuable feedback on the completed tarmac surface. Motorsport.com reported that the Williams driver described the circuit as "faster than it looks," offering an early technical assessment of the layout's characteristics. The circuit is being prepared to meet strict FIA deadlines as final construction work progresses.
With the tarmac now in place and the track operational for evaluation runs, the Madring enters a critical phase of certification ahead of its September debut on the Formula 1 calendar.
